Getaways
I asked this a while ago, but no one had any suggestions. Maybe the travelers in the group were away that day.
I am looking for some reasonably-close destinations for a nice week-long holiday. The following criteria are not essential, but the more of them your spot offers, the better for me.
Old architecture.
Reasonable cost for hotels and food (i.e. forget England).
Access to spoiled-person pursuits like massages, spas, and wine.
Near water if possible.
Easy to get to from the airport (i.e. no 5 hour bus rides after deplaning).
Anyone have jewels they have discovered and now don’t mind revealing? Any spots in Turkey, for example?
I don't know about Turkey, but I hear there are some great deals at Syrian beach resorts.......
You've tried Thailand before I take it? I have been to both Phuket and Samui and they are both nice and relaxing. Phuket is bigger and has more to offer. Both have their own airports. Samui's is a beautiful single strip lined with tropical flowers.
I'd think about Taiwan somewhere in the mountains, like near Puli. A 2 hour bus ride from Tai Chung if I remember well. Of course as soon as you get down to the sea, it will get hot. But they do have lakes at higher altitudes.
go to Nepal. My friend keeps going to Nepal side of Tibet and loves it.
Dalian and Harbin are cool (temperature) in the summer but still alot of people. Both have buildings from 18th centuries build by Russian/Europeans. I like Dalian better because I can go to remote islands. Oh yeah there is still alot of people.

I was actually looking for a cooler climate to escape the summer heat here in Zhuhai, so no Thailand yet (I'll save that it for the winter).
Anyone been to the Ukraine?
