Subway is open!!!!!
Walked by there today. Looks like a real Subway, just very small.
Has not opened yet though .. was there yesterday evening and told me they will open on wednesday
it looked open , even already had vegetables behind the counter .. but think that is just for training purposes ...
o
Yes, Wednesday. We asked yesterday as well. So looks like that's where we are having lunch tomorrow :o)
On the other hand, it will be too crowded. May be should wait a couple of days :o)

Where is it located? Good news for Subway lovers! :)
Subway is located in Jida where the international trade shopping center but you have to go thru in it and its the annex building. It is on the first floor very small.
Went there today...not bad! And place was reasonably packed at 1:30 PM. They are still learning the ropes and they had a "sandwich artist" there who I recognized from the Subway at Zhongshan Jusco helping them. Place is a little small but was amazed how much traffic that little corner gets.
I hope they do well there.
PS...only down side - no vinegar and oil yet!
@xiemao
not a good sign that there is staff from Zhonghan subway there... that subway is one of the worst ones I ever visited! they are really really bad and disgusting !! I think subway head office should send some inspections there way , they do nothing by the book .. all their meat and vegetables are disgusting , the bread there is stale
if it is the same owners I will never go there and report them to subway head office
xie xie DaveB. will visit there this weekends.
my previous reply was a bit overreaction because of my dislike of the zhongshan subway... I went this morning to the new one in duty free mall and must say I was quite happy with the sandwiches they gave me ..
also get the impression that lots of the people that work in the mall are interested in what the new restuarant is all about .. as I was in there 3 or 4 people came by asking questions about the menu and wondering what it was all about .. so hopefully it becomes a succes story!
Nice one Sidney. Your previous post was really a bit discouraging, but was wiped out with the new post :)
I told my friends about the Subway in Jida, they were very eager too to go there. One of them is already thinking to have a Sub sandwich for lunch next Monday :) :)
One interesting thing is that you get a drink with your sub. At no extra cost. Everywhere else you have to pay for it extra. And their cookies are good too!
Mmm...I'm already craving a tuna footlong with extra pickles.
Any word on the pricing? I'e never been to a Subway in China.
@cheekygal
I think that is just because they just a opening promotion they are doing
@Matt Cardinal
tuna is 26 rmb for 6 inch, for footlong you have to add 16 rmb so that makes it 42 rmb
25-26 for a 6-inch and 41 for a 1 foot sub.
Yes, does look like a promotion on drinks now. Note: they don't have regular ketchup! The only one they have is a spicy one.
@cheekygal
I dont think subway ever had ketchup? They only have the standard subway sauces! my favorite is chipotle southwest...
the red sauce they have on the side is a non standard subway sauce .. it is not ketchup but chili sauce
Two threads about Subway? Is it really that big a deal...?
@Sidney - I don't know about other places but Beijing, HK and Macau definitely have regular ketchup. I brought some subs from Macau couple weeks ago and for my daughter I always take regular ketchup. May be standard way is not to have ketchup but they have it according to the demand?
@DaveB - if you eat McD lunch you can definitely get a good deal. But dinner per se for 2 adults and 1 child come to 70-80RMB.
@Wolle - sure. It is a big deal for some. For me per se. While I cook at home most of the time I'd like to have an option of having some quick more or less healthy option of eating out. Starbucks was also a big deal for me. I don't care much for Western food as Western restaurants usually have high prices but it is nice to have an option. :o)
Hmmm. Jiaozi. Where was that like button? :-D
having a subway in zhuhai is.....well....better than no subway.
service is slow but I can not really blame them....it is training on the spot mostly. Takes about 10 minutes to get your sub.
Every piece of meat is counted and recounted, and then arranged on the bread almost with surgical precision. Same thing with the greens.
But other than being a tad cheap on the meat, and being a bit slow furnishing the sandwich - it was not a bad experience.
@DaveB I have been to subway every other day since they opened .. sometimes even every day ;) I everytime there were other customers .. couple of chinese and always at least one foreigner.. also get the impression many of the customers never been to a subway before .. so I think subway will be doing good in zhuhai ...
does anyone by the way know why subway in china sells the meatballs without the marinara sauce? that sauce is what makes the meatballs so good.. HK/Macau sell the "real" ones .. but in china they like the meatballs without that sauce? why is that? Chinese just don't like it or something ?

Sorry for the mis-info. I had already eaten so I didn't actually go in.
I hope they throw away those "training" veggies. There's probably a 50% chance they will. :-p
Yes, cheeky, I am sure it will be packed! Better get there early!
@ unoj
It is a bit difficult to find. Enter the shopping center in the large entrance just before you get to the Starbuck's. Walk straight through to the back and exit the building. There is a Paodora coffee shop just outside the door. Walk across the small open area and into the next building and Subway is right there.
Alternatively, if you are on the ground floor of the Hoba Duty Free mall (by the elevator than comes down from near the 1+1 Market), walk past the ice cream and coffee kiosks and continue all the way to the end of the building and just before the exit you will find the Subway on the left.
Cheers. Dave B
