China Wireless Technologies (02369.HK) announced on Tuesday that the company's Yulong CoolPad Dongguan Songshanhu base had gone into production.
The base covers an area of 33.333 hectares and is predicted to reach a production capacity of 40 million units, and become the largest 3G mobile phone production base in China.
The base is engaged in making EVDO, TD-SCDMA, and WCDMA mobile phones and other components. Its first-phase capacity is 15 million units, which will be expanded to 40 million in the coming three years.
The 3G market has developed rapidly in recent years. Sales of 3G mobile phones broke 5 million in China in 2009 and those of Samsung, Nokia and CoolPad ranked in the top three, accounting for 60 percent of the total market share.
Li Wang, the standing vice president at Yulong Computer Telecommunication Scientific (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. (Yulong Telecommunication) said that CoolPad would be the biggest beneficiary of the 3G market.
Yulong Telecommunication is a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Wireless Technologies.
