The "2012 Dongguan Online Lychee Festival" was officially launched on Thursday 14th June. Many kinds of freshly picked lychee are available to residents via group-buying, online shopping or online auctions. For those in the city, freshly picked lychee can be delivered to your home within six hours after placing an online order. For those outside Dongguan, the lychee will be delivered in up to 24 hours.
In order to ensure the quality of lychee bought online, they have been primarily sourced from last year's list of "the Top 10 Leisure Picking Spots in Dongguan". At present, six types of litchi are available to residents.
Due to unfavourable weather conditions, the lychee harvest is estimated to have almost halved this year which has in turn affected prices. An official from Dongguan Agricultural Information Website confirmed, "[T]he majority of lychee sold last year were around the 30RMB/kg bracket. This year high-quality lychee will circa 40RMB/kg, a 30% increase over last year."
