South Korea to establish international school in Guangzhou

An international school for South Korean in Guangdong province is to be established, revealed Yang Chang Soo, South Korean Consul General in Guangzhou .

The initial location was proposed for Panyu district, Guangzhou, which is one of the gathering places for South Koreans, said Yang, who added that there are currently about 50,000 South Koreans in Guangdong. The international school will be mainly focused on children's education of South Korean in Guangdong, but Yang didn't reveal any details.

Yang's comments came during a meeting with Chen Jixing, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Guangdong Province, in Guangzhou on July 12.

According to Yang, South Korea and Guangdong have a close economic and trade cooperation. Last year, the export trade volume between South Korea and Guangdong registered 51.1 billion USD, accounting for 25 percent of the total trade volume between China and South Korea.

Yang, the newly arrived Consul General, who has worked in Guangzhou before, said he is now greatly impressed by Guangdong's transformation and upgrading policy, and he expects a prospective cooperation with Guangdong.

Chen Jixing said South Korea has advanced technology in manufacturing, LCD and other electronic products, which will greatly help to accelerate Guangdong's economic transformation and upgrading. He also hoped more mutual visits would be encouraged to enhance the two sides' exchanges.
