Zhongshan Sanxiang Foraminiferal Sculpture Park, the first theme sculpture park oriented at marine microorganism foraminifera in the world, held the grand opening ceremony yesterday morning. 114 foraminiferal sculptures erected at the foot of Xiaolanghuan Mountain have attracted domestic and overseas tourists from America, the Philippines, Qingdao City and Zhongshan City, which becomes a unique scenic spot in the world.
The Foraminiferal Sculpture Park was constructed with the intellectual property of foraminiferal model donated by Zheng Shouyi, one of the “Top 10 Outstanding Returned Overseas Chinese”, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a marine biologist with the ancestral origin of Sanxiang Town, Zhongshan City. Offering full help and guidance to the location selection, construction planning, model fabrication and installation, Zheng Shouyi exerted greatest efforts to assist her hometown in building a public scenic park which integrates science, art and marine culture.
The total investment of the museum reaches 7 million yuan. In the park, vivid foraminiferal sculptures of various shapes are displayed in hundreds of times diameters. Meanwhile, the museum exhibits the souvenirs of clothes and lighting designed with foraminifer, possessing relatively high educational value of popular science and aesthetic value.
